NEW DELHI: Leaders of BIMSTEC countries will take part in Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony for the second term following the massive victory of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha 2019 elections.
Modi together with his council of ministers will take the oath of office at 7 pm Thursday at Rashtrapati Bhawan, according to a notification.
BIMSTEC nations include Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan that are dependent on the Bay of Bengal.
India has invited the leaders of the BIMSTEC member states for the swearing-in ceremony, and this is in line with the government’s focus on its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy,” a Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said.
In addition, the BJP government has also invited the president of Kyrgyzstan and prime minister of Mauritius for the occasion.
“The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, who is the current chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Prime Minister of Mauritius, who was the chief guest at this year’s Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, have also been invited,” he added.
In his previous term’s oath ceremony, Modi had invited the Mauritian prime minister.
