NEW DELHI: Outgoing Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)has secured a spectacular win under the latter’s leadership, and expressed his inability to join the Cabinet.
The Modi and his council of ministers will take the oath of office on Thursday at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Citing health issues, Jaitley in a letter dated May 29 said, “during the last 18 months, I have had some serious health challenges, and added that “the BJP and NDA under your leadership have secured a spectacular win.
“I am writing to you to formally request you that I should be allowed a reasonable time for myself, my treatment and my health, and therefore not be a part of any responsibility, for the present, in the new government,” Jaitley added.
Modi-led NDA has secured a massive win over rivals with more than 350 seats out of 542. The second term is also expected to see new faces to be inducted as ministers while, according to sources, most of the ministers would retain their portfolios in the second term.
