NEW DELHI: Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister Tuesday lost parliamentary majority ahead much-talked Brexit vote as the Conservative lawmaker Phillip Lee defected to the pro-European Union Liberal Democrats.
“The Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that Bracknell MP Phillip Lee has joined the party,” the Liberal Democrats in a statement Tuesday said, following the Brexit vote.
Lee, however, blamed the Conservative party for pushing Brexit unethically.
“This Conservative government is aggressively pursuing a damaging Brexit in unprincipled ways,” Lee said, and added that the regime was using political manipulation and lies in a deliberate and considered way.
Last week, the British Queen Elizabeth Wednesday approved the suspension of the Parliament till October 14, following the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s intention to facilitate Brexit plan.
“He (Lee) shares our commitment to prevent a disastrous No Deal Brexit, and to stop Brexit altogether,” Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson said.
