After Bihar & Gujarat, Polycab bags BharatNet-II program in Tamil Nadu

NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu FibreNet Corporation Ltd. ratified the responsibility for Polycab India Ltd. for implementing BharatNet Phase-II project in the districts of Package-A in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 509 crore under the Master Service Agreement.

Polycab would act as Master System Integrator to provide end-to-end connectivity with high-speed bandwidth using Optical Fibre Cables in 3,095 Gram Panchayats in 75 Blocks across 9 districts of the state.

As a Master System Integrator, Polycab would be involved in site-survey, design, fiber-laying, integration, commissioning and O&M to enable Gram Panchayats in the demarcated districts with a minimum scalable bandwidth of 1Gbps under the project. The districts in the state delineated for Polycab are: Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Ranipettai, Tirupati and Chennai.

Speaking on the agreement, Ashish D Jain, COO Polycab India said: “After executing BharatNet Phase-II projects in Gujarat (package B) and Bihar (Package 3) successfully as a Project Implementing Agency, we have been given the all-important responsibility of a Master System Integrator by Tamil Nadu FibreNet Corporation Ltd. to implement the BharatNet Phase-II project in the districts of Package A in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 509 crore under the Master Service Agreement.”

He further informed that the implementation of the entire project has been divided into four packages i.e. A, B, C and D, with one Master System Integrator for Package A and one System Integrator for respective each package (B, C & D) and obviously, we’ve got to provide end-to-end connectivity with high-speed bandwidth using Optical Fibre Cables in 3,095 Gram Panchayats in 75 Blocks across 9 districts of the state under Package A.

He said the Polycab’s scope of work would involve site-survey, design, fiber-laying, integration, commissioning and O&M to enable Gram Panchayats in the demarcated districts with a minimum scalable bandwidth of 1Gbps, we’re also entrusted with the responsibility to set up State NOC (Network Operations Centre) at Chennai to integrate all the Gram Panchayats (GPs) under the project, including the GPs under the other Packages, i.e. B, C and D. So, in a sense, Polycab would be involved in continuous monitoring of the performance and health of the entire network in BharatNet Phase-II in Tamil Nadu.

The deadline for the project is 29th March, 2023.
