NEW DELHI: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh- East Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Thursday received a notice from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for using children in her election campaign.
Citing the Election Commission of India (ECI) norms, the Delhi-based commission said that the use of children in poll campaign constituted a violation of the model code of conduct (MCC).
Earlier, a 12-second video of Gandhi with a group of children had gone viral with a group of children shouting slogans.
NCPCR asked Gandhi to file a reply to the notice within the three days, and further asked to provide the names and addresses of the children and the location where the sloganeering took place.
The ECI guidelines discourage the use of children in any form including images in posters or banners for the purpose of the election campaign by political parties.
