NEW DELHI: I am confident love will win, the All India Congress Committee president and main Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi Sunday said, after casting his vote at New Delhi’s Lodhi Road on Sunday.
“The election was fought on several issues – unemployment, farm distress, demonetisation, and Rafale. Narendra Modi used hatred in the campaign and we used love and I am confident love will win,” Gandhi said.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh East in-charge for Congress party Priyanka Gandhi said that the ongoing election is meant to save the constitution, and added that the people are in anger against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government.
There is a triangular fight in the New Delhi constituency with Congress party’s Ajay Maken is facing Bhartiya Janta Party’s Meenakshi Lekhi and Aam Aadmi Party’s Brijesh Goyal.
Early in the day, there were reports of electronic voting machines’ (EVM) malfunctioning from some polling booths in Delhi. However, there was no immediate reaction from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Nearly 11 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise across 59 constituencies with the 979 candidates in fray for the sixth phase of the general election 2019.
