NEW DELHI: In a sharp attack on the ruling Republican party, the Democratic party candidate for the US presidential election Bernie Sanders blamed the US president Donald Trump of being unfaithful to as many as 23,000 AT&T workers who have lost their jobs.
“AT&T promised to create 7,000 jobs if the Trump tax cuts passed. Instead, AT&T has cut over 23,000 jobs since the tax scam passed in 2017. Trump and Republicans betrayed workers,” Sanders tweeted Tuesday.
In his campaign pitch, he added, “We are going to stand with workers and repeal Trump’s giveaways to the 1% and large corporations.”
Earlier, the Dallas-based telecom carrier AT&T said that its recent layoffs had only impacted a very small section of its overall workforce.
However, Sanders, a US Senator from Vermont, is running second to the former Vice President Joe Biden in recent polling for the Democratic nomination for president, according to Chicago-based political data aggregator RealClearPolitics.
Sanders earlier said that in order to defeat Trump, his campaign was about bringing people into the political process who would otherwise never get involved.
The senator also feels that a war with Iran would be disastrous, and they could not allow Trump and his national security advisor, John Bolton, to drag the US into a war with Iran.
Sanders who announced his 2020 presidential bid on February 19, is holding a poll campaign in Montpelier on May 25.
