NEW DELHI: The United States president Donald Trump has expressed his intention to buy Greenland island, the Wall Street Journal report said.
Trump has asked his advisors if it was possible for the US to acquire Greenland, which is ice-covered island located northeast of Canada.
The interest from the American president emerged out of his curiousity about territory’s natural resources and geopolitical relevance, according to the journal.
The US already maintains its northern-most military base called Thule Air Base in Greenland.
Meanwhile, Greenland premier Kim Kielsen in a statement said, “Greenland is not for sale,” while a lawmaker Aaja Chemnitz Larsen tweeted, “No thanks to Trump buying Greenland!”
Greenland is an autonomous Danish territory located between the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans.
Earlier, the real-estate-developer-turned-politician has expressed his interest in North Korea’s beaches.
