NEW DELHI: The United States (US) President Donald J Trump’s call to Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy was not in sync with the national security goals, the witnesses in the ongoing impeachment testified.
Former White House national security official and a former top American under oath said that the President’s requests on a 25 July phone call with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of Ukraine were inappropriate and not in line with the US national security goals.
Alexander Vindman said that it (Trump’s call) was “improper,” and, who acted out of “duty,” reported his alarm to a lawyer for the National Security Council.
“My intent was to raise these concerns because they had significant national security implications for our country. I never thought that I’d be sitting here testifying in front of this committee and the American public about my actions,” Vindman added.
Another witness Tim Morrison said he did not believe that anything illegal was occurred on the call, but was worried about the political ramifications considering if those contents were leaked.
Morrison has lately left his National Security Council post.
The US President Trump’s impeachment is underway with the live television broadcast.
