NEW DELHI: The Chinese government Sunday said that Donald Trump-headed US regime’s accusation of China backtracking the trade talks was completely groundless, and the US should take responsibility for its failure.
“The US government’s accusation of Chinese backtracking is totally groundless,” the Chinese government said in a white paper on the trade war Sunday said.
China has also alleged that Washington was putting pressure on Beijing to reach a deal to end the trade war and added that it wanted a resolution through talks but it would not allow any compromise to its principles.
“Historical experience has proved that any attempt to force a deal through tactics such as smears, undermining, and maximum pressure will only spoil the cooperative relationship,” it added.
China in a detailed study, titled ‘China’s Position on the China-US Economic and Trade Consultation’ outlined the long drawn out processes of 11 rounds of negotiations held since last year to end the tariff war.
Wang Shouwen, China’s vice-minister of commerce said the US was putting some compulsory requirements impinging on China’s sovereignty with a rider that some tariff would remain even after the deal.
Meanwhile, China has indicated action against FedEx Corp, in its escalating trade war with Washington, after the latter has imposed restrictions against China-based telecom gear maker Huawei Technologies.
To designate an untrustworthy foreign entity, China will look at whether FedEx discriminates against domestic companies, the state-run Xinhua news agency said Saturday.
Chinese retaliatory action on tariffs on the US products started Saturday, affecting nearly 2,500 goods which would face levies of up to 25% as compared with 10% earlier.
