NEW DELHI: Voting for the second phase India’s Parliamentary election 2019 Wednesday started.
In the 97 Lok Sabha constituencies, a total of 1,644 candidates were in the fray while the Election Commission of India (ECI), a poll body has cancelled the election in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore due to the excessive cash found and postponed polls in Tripura east to April 23.
A total of 11 states and a Union Territory is under polling in the second phase on Wednesday, according to ECI.
Some of the prominent figures in the fray include former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, and former Centre ministers Jitendra Singh, Jual Oram, Sadananda Gowda and Pon Radhakrishnan.
In the second phase, more than 250 contestants have criminal cases registered against them, including 167 with serious criminal records.
The third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh phases will have voting for 115, 71, 51, 59 and 59 seats, respectively.
The Lok Sabha Elections 2019 will be conducted in India after voting in seven phases.
