At least seven people killed and 40 others injured in Russian missle attack in Lviv
NEW DELHI: At least 7 people were killed and 40 others were injured in a Russian missle attack on Ukraine's western city of Lviv, media reports said.
Ukrainian Internal Affairs Minister Igor Klymenko took to the Telegram, saying, "In total, seven people died in Lviv, including three children."
Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovy highlighted that sirens rang out over the Ukrainian city before the morning of Wednesday. He further advised people to take shelter as air defences were working to down a barrage of missiles.
Moreover, at least 40 people have been injured, the prosecutor's office said, adding that the attack damaged schools, medical facilities, and buildings in the city centre, as per media reports.
Russia's air attack on Lviv's historic centre prompted Ukrainian officials to call Western allies to provide air defence systems and long-range weapons to retaliate by attacking targets deep inside Russia.
Following Ukraine's surprise attack on Russia's Kursk region, Moscow has intensified its aerial attacks on Kyiv.
Ukrainian minister Klymenko said search and rescue operations have been started in Lviv, located near the border with NATO member Poland, which has largely been spared over the last two and a half years of war.
The latest attack on Lviv was part of a wider barrage across Ukraine, with 13 missiles and 29 drones launched, the Ukrainian air force said, adding that it downed seven missiles and 22 drones.
The Ukrainian emergency services said the Arena hotel had been damaged after the wreckage of a downed missile fell in the central city of Kryvyi Rih, and wounded five people.
