NEW DELHI: Coronavirus or Covid-19 cases in India crossed 30,000-mark late Tuesday, with the death toll reaching 950, according to the compilation of state-wise data.

Presently, the country has 22,000 active novel Coronavirus-infected patients while 7,030 individuals have been cured of the deadly virus first emerged at China’s Wuhan back in December 2019.

Maharashtra has the highest number of 8,600 cases, followed by Gujarat (3,548), Madhya Pradesh (2,386), Rajasthan (2,265) and Uttar Pradesh (2,043).

The Indian health department official said that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has launched a national-level study on the ability of plasma therapy in the treatment of the virus.

“Until ICMR concludes its study and a robust scientific proof is available, plasma therapy should be used only for research or trial purpose. If plasma therapy is not used in a proper manner under proper guideline then it can also cause life-threatening complications and its use for treatment right now will also be illegal,” Aggarwal said.

The cases worldwide have crossed 3 million with the death toll reaching 212,000, according to Johns Hopkins University data. The death count in the United States has hit 56,000-mark.
