NEW DELHI: Tata Motors has inaugurated a new Re.Wi.Re (Recycle With Respect) Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Patna, Bihar, further expanding its nationwide network of end-of-life vehicle recycling centres under India's vehicle scrappage policy.

The facility, inaugurated by Bihar Transport Minister Damodar Rawat, has an annual capacity to safely dismantle 15,000 end-of-life vehicles across all brands and vehicle categories, including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

Spread over 5.5 acres, the Patna facility is operated by the Kalahanu Bothra Group and is designed to scientifically dismantle unfit vehicles while promoting responsible recycling and resource recovery in line with the principles of a circular economy.

Speaking at the inauguration, Damodar Rawat said the facility would support the implementation of the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy by helping remove old and polluting vehicles from the roads while encouraging the adoption of newer, safer and more fuel-efficient vehicles. He added that modernising the vehicle fleet is essential for reducing emissions and improving road safety across Bihar.

Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks at Tata Motors, said the new facility marks another milestone in building an organised ecosystem for the responsible disposal of end-of-life vehicles. He noted that the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy has created a structured framework to phase out unfit vehicles through incentives that encourage vehicle owners to upgrade to cleaner and more efficient models.

According to the company, Tata Motors now operates 12 Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities across the country, including centres in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune, Guwahati, Raipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Patna. Together, these facilities have the capacity to responsibly dismantle nearly 2 lakh end-of-life vehicles annually.

The Re.Wi.Re facilities feature fully digital and paperless operations with dedicated dismantling stations for tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, gases and other vehicle components. The centres use specialised dismantling processes for passenger and commercial vehicles to ensure safe disposal and recycling in accordance with the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy.

The company said the expansion of its scrappage network reinforces its commitment to sustainable mobility, responsible vehicle recycling and the development of a circular economy in India's automotive sector.
