TCIL turns to AI, blockchain; to double revenue by 2025

NEW DELHI: State-owned Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL), as a master system integrator (MSI), is a working on a variety of state-run programs, with a focus on made in India products in line with the Centre’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) vision. In an interaction with the PageOne Asia, TCIL Chairman Sanjeev Kumar talks on company’s ongoing projects, business diversification, order book, BharatNet program, and revenue targets. Edited excerpts.

What are your focus areas as a master system integrator (MSI)?

TCIL has been the project implementation agency for various projects in the fields of IT, Telecom, Power and Civil Engineering from the various government departments round the world. Business vertical wise TCIL has laid its focus in areas like e-Education, e-Health, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, 4G-5G, IoT and Video Analytics.

As a government master system integrator, TCIL has been focusing to stitch solutions in a manner so as to maximise the utilisation of indigenously-developed products without compromising on the project quality and profitability of the project. This is particularly important to break any sort of cartelisation in the industry.

What are the projects that you have recently won?

Recently, TCIL has been awarded works as MSI in the below mentioned focus areas:

Telecom Works: Implementation of Bharatnet Project for APFSL as Master System Integrator (MSI). In-Building Solution for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Metro Stations; Atal Tunnel (built under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh); and AIIMS Delhi, Raipur, Bhopal, Nagpur, Rae Bareilly, etc.

Information and Communication Technology: a) E-Education projects for Schools in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Odisha and Maharashtra. b. AMC of VC Equipment for IT Department., c). ERP implementation for Clients in Pune and Bangaluru d)  Opex-based campus wide Wi-Fi Networking Banaras Hindu University

Power Transmission: a) MPLS network upgradation in BSNL. b) Provision of IP-MPLS system at Katihar and Alipurduar Division for Northeast Frontier Railway. c) Setup test lab in Airforce under AFNIC project:

Emergency Response Services: a) 104JE/108 Ambulance call center services for National Health Mission, Rajasthan Health Department. b) Emergency response services Dial 108 for National Health Mission, Government of Meghalaya.

Architectural Design & Civil Works: a) Construction of 100 seated Medical College cum 500 bedded Hospital at Tura (Meghalaya) for Health and Family Welfare department. b) Construction of NIT Delhi campus.

E- Governance: a) UT Wide CCTV Surveillance System Jammu & Kashmir. b) CCTV Surveillance of Police Stations for Punjab, Assam, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. c) Installation of CCTV Surveillance system in DoT HQ, Sanchar Bhawan. d) CCTV Surveillance system and Public Address System for Patna High Court. e) Supply, installation and commissioning of Surveillance Equipment along with OFC Network in Ajmer, Jaipur, Kota & Udaipur Smart Cities. f) Core Banking Solution for Uttarakhand State Co-Operative Bank with On-Premise Data Center. g) Real time excise supply chain management Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

What is the value of your current order book?

The order book of TCIL is approximately Rs. 6,850 crore.

How have you contributed to the government's ambitious BharatNet program? Which are the projects that are underway?

TCIL’s has contributed significantly to the government's ambitious BharatNet program through various projects. Few of these prestigious projects include: BharatNet VSAT, Telangana -Fiber Grid (T- Fibre), and Andhra Pradesh State Fibernet Limited (APSFL).

Are you open to work with Central and state organizations and departments? Update us on a few captive projects?

Yes, TCIL is already working with various central and state organizations and departments. In fact, Government entities constitute as major clientele for TCIL and we have been proactively approaching these departments for business development activities. All the recent orders referred above were bagged by TCIL from government departments only.

You have planned to double your revenue by 2025. Is it on track? Any revised targets?

There are no revisions in the target. TCIL is diligently working on its target of doubling the revenue by 2025. Several structural changes are being carried out to systematically work on the top line. Efforts are being taken to increase the visibility of TCIL, particularly for the overseas markets. The strategy has been reworked and TCIL is now approaching prospective clients proactively for any prospective business leads.

At the same time emphasis has been laid to improve the profitability in ongoing projects and improve the bottom line as well. Diversification of business is being done in new emerging areas of technology such as e-health, e-education, industrial automation, drone-based solutions, quantum key, Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain and artificial intelligence among others.

How are you promoting domestic technology in line with the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign?

TCIL is whole heartedly committed for Atmanirbhar Bharat and has been actively pursuing its policy for promotion of indigenously developed products. The policy is not limited to India but for the overseas markets also. Regular sessions are conducted to sensitize the TCIL officers about indigenously developed products and technologies. Further, as already mentioned, the focus of TCIL has been to stitch solutions in such a manner so as to maximize the utilization of indigenously-developed products without compromising profitability and quality of the project.

TCIL is actively supporting Voice of Indian Communication Technology Enterprises (VoICE), which a new group, working on AatmaNirbharta in telecom sector with participation restricted only to Indian-registered companies with Indian R&D, IPR and designs.
