SIAM and KVS launch nationwide online road safety education program for students

NEW DELHI: In a major move to promote road safety among young learners, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) have jointly launched a nationwide online road safety education program for school students. The initiative was inaugurated at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2, New Delhi, in the presence of Union Ministers Nitin Jairam Gadkari and Dharmendra Pradhan, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, and SIAM.
Launched under SIAM’s “???????? ???” (Safe Journey) campaign and the Government’s broader goal of “Building the Nation, Responsibly,” the program aims to instill responsible road habits among over 15 lakh students across 1,253 Kendriya Vidyalayas. The initiative includes six interactive digital modules aligned with school curricula, covering key aspects such as pedestrian safety, seatbelt and helmet use, road rules, and legal frameworks.
Addressing the launch, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the importance of teaching road safety from a young age and called on students to help spread awareness at home. “These lessons must begin early to build a generation that is socially responsible and road-aware,” he said.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan echoed the sentiment, stating, “With over 30 crore students across India, schools are the starting point for a road-safe nation. I urge all students to take this message forward, even using social media to amplify its reach.”
The program builds on a successful pilot run at Kendriya Vidyalaya, R.K. Puram, and will now be integrated through a web-based Learning Management System (LMS) across KVS schools, ensuring structured, accessible, and engaging learning experiences.
SIAM’s Executive Director Prashant K Banerjee, along with former SIAM President Vinod Aggarwal, highlighted the collaborative efforts behind the program and its long-term vision to create a culture of road safety in India.
This initiative represents a unified approach by industry, government, and academia to build a safer future—starting in classrooms and extending to every citizen.
