Smartworks strengthens Board with appointment of independent directors
NEW DELHI: Smartworks Coworking Spaces Limited has strengthened its Board by appointing former Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Whole-Time Member Rajeev Krishnamuralilal Agarwal as an Additional Non-Executive and Independent Director. The company has also recommended the appointment of former Company Law Board Chairman Justice (Retd.) Dilip Deshmukh as a Non-Executive and Independent Director, subject to shareholders' approval.
The appointments are aimed at reinforcing the company's governance framework by bringing extensive expertise in capital markets, financial regulation, corporate governance, judicial administration and corporate adjudication. Smartworks said the strengthened Board would support its long-term growth strategy while enhancing oversight and institutional governance.
Commenting on the development, Smartworks Founder and Managing Director Neetish Sarda said strong governance has been central to the company's growth journey and would continue to remain a key priority. He said the combined experience of Rajeev Agarwal and Justice (Retd.) Dilip Deshmukh across capital markets, regulation and judicial governance would significantly strengthen the Board and reinforce the company's institutional foundation.
Rajeev Krishnamuralilal Agarwal, an Indian Revenue Service officer of the 1983 batch, served as a Whole-Time Member at SEBI, where he oversaw key regulatory areas including securities markets, mutual funds, foreign portfolio investments, market intermediaries, surveillance and enforcement. He played a significant role in introducing the Offer for Sale (OFS) mechanism and strengthening investor protection and market governance.
Justice (Retd.) Dilip Deshmukh brings more than four decades of experience in the judiciary and corporate adjudication. He previously served as Chairman of the Company Law Board, now the National Company Law Tribunal, and as a Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court. Following his judicial tenure, he has been practising in domestic and international arbitration, specialising in corporate law and governance.
