Serum Institute to manufacture Oxford Ebola vaccine with CEPI funding support
NEW DELHI: Serum Institute of India (SII) will manufacture an Ebola vaccine developed by the University of Oxford, supported by funding of approximately US$ 8.6 million from the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), strengthening global efforts to expand access to critical outbreak vaccines.
The partnership aims to scale up production of the vaccine to improve preparedness and response capabilities against Ebola outbreaks, particularly in vulnerable regions. The initiative underscores growing international collaboration in vaccine development and manufacturing to address emerging infectious disease threats.
SII, one of the world’s largest vaccine manufacturers by volume, is expected to play a key role in producing and supplying the vaccine at scale, reinforcing India’s position as a global hub for affordable vaccine production.
The CEPI-backed programme is part of broader efforts to accelerate vaccine readiness for epidemic-prone diseases and ensure rapid deployment during public health emergencies.
