NEW DELHI: Nearly 1.6 million people have been affected by devastating Bhotekoshi floods in Nepal, with the death toll reaching 1,050 and 3,916 people reported missing, according to the government’s preliminary situation report.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) identified Rasuwa and Nuwakot as the worst-affected districts, while Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan were classified as moderately affected.

Chitwan reported the highest number of recovered bodies at 321, followed by Nawalparasi East with 216, Nawalparasi West with 170 and Nuwakot with 142.

Rescue operations have so far brought 11,814 people to safety, including 253 foreign nationals. More than 3,702 people have been rescued through 573 air operations.

Nepal has deployed 21,011 security personnel for search and rescue operations, comprising 8,896 Army personnel, 7,912 police personnel and 4,203 members of the Armed Police Force.

Teams from India, China and South Korea are also assisting Nepal’s rescue efforts as authorities tackle the widespread emergency across the mountainous region.

The floods have also put significant pressure on the country’s healthcare system. 292 injured people have received treatment at health facilities, with 79 still undergoing treatment and 210 discharged. Separately, the Nepali Army has provided medical assistance to 2,740 people in affected areas. Three people died while receiving medical care.
