India ships $50 billion worth of iPhones in 2025, says Ashwini Vaishnaw
NEW DELHI:
India shipped iPhones worth $50 billion in 2025, marking a major milestone in the country’s electronics manufacturing and export journey, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
The Minister said the achievement reflects the success of the Make in India initiative and India’s transformation into a global manufacturing and export hub. Electronics production in the country has grown significantly over the past decade, with exports rising sharply due to focused policy support and industry participation.
Vaishnaw noted that electronics have now emerged as one of India’s top export sectors, driven by strong performance in mobile phone manufacturing. Apple’s expanding manufacturing base in India has played a key role in this growth, supported by the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, improved infrastructure, and a growing component ecosystem.
He highlighted that the scale of iPhone exports from India has surpassed the mobile export volumes of several other global manufacturers operating under similar incentive programmes, underlining India’s growing competitiveness in the global electronics supply chain.
The growth has also contributed to large-scale job creation, with electronics manufacturing now supporting millions of direct and indirect jobs across the country. Several manufacturing facilities employ tens of thousands of workers, reflecting the sector’s expanding footprint.
Looking ahead, the Minister said India aims to move up the value chain by strengthening capabilities across design, components, materials, and advanced manufacturing, positioning the country as a comprehensive electronics powerhouse.
