Ukraine strikes Russian oil facility in Samara region
NEW DELHI: Ukrainian forces have struck an oil facility in Russia’s Samara region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, as Kyiv continues long-range attacks on Russian energy and military infrastructure.
Zelenskyy said the operation was part of a series of strikes that also targeted a site in the Black Sea, a facility in Russia’s Oryol region used for launching and storing attack drones, and a supply depot in the Bryansk region.
The latest strike comes amid continued attacks by both sides on energy infrastructure. Russia carried out a major aerial assault on Ukraine’s energy grid on September 30, with Ukrainian officials reporting damage to critical infrastructure and power disruptions in several regions.
Samara has previously been targeted in Ukrainian attacks. On September 22, Ukrainian forces confirmed strikes on the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara, while the Syzran refinery in the same region was also hit earlier in September.
The latest attack comes despite calls from US President Donald Trump for Ukraine to stop targeting Russian oil refineries, amid concerns over the impact of refinery disruptions on fuel supplies and prices.
