India and Canada agree to deepen cooperation on terrorism, organised crime and cybercrime

NEW DELHI: India and Canada have agreed to deepen cooperation in countering terrorism, organised crime and cybercrime, signalling renewed efforts to strengthen security ties between the two countries.

The two sides discussed enhancing coordination and information-sharing to address emerging security challenges, including transnational criminal networks and cyber threats. The cooperation is expected to focus on strengthening law-enforcement capabilities and improving mechanisms to tackle cross-border crimes.

The understanding comes as New Delhi and Ottawa seek to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Both sides acknowledged the guidance provided by their respective Prime Ministers during their meetings in New Delhi in March 2026 and on the margins of the G7 Summit in Évian in June 2026.

The two sides noted with satisfaction the sustained and constructive bilateral engagements over the past year, guided by mutual trust, respect for each other’s concerns and sensitivities, and a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, according to a press release by MEA.

They welcomed efforts to advance negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). They also discussed the growing potential for advancing a substantive bilateral defence relationship in keeping with the vision of the leadership.
