India closely monitoring safety of its nationals amid escalating Iran-Israel conflict: MEA

NEW DELHI: Amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that it is closely tracking the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian nationals in both countries.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “The Indian Embassy in Tehran is actively monitoring the evolving security scenario and is in regular contact with Indian students in Iran. In some cases, the Embassy has facilitated the relocation of students to safer areas. Additional measures are also being evaluated.”

The MEA further noted that the Indian Embassy is coordinating with community leaders throughout Iran to assess needs and provide support to Indian citizens on the ground.
Currently, over 1,500 Indian students—primarily from Jammu and Kashmir—remain in Iran, many of whom are pursuing medical degrees in cities such as Tehran, Shiraz, and Qom.

Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Tehran issued an advisory urging Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin to stay alert and register their details using a Google form shared on its official X account.
“Do not panic. Exercise caution and remain in touch with the Embassy,” the advisory stated. It also included a Telegram channel link for real-time updates and information.

India continues to maintain a close watch on the situation and is prepared to take further steps as needed to safeguard its citizens in the region.
