COAI welcomes government’s crackdown on illegal signal boosters via new e-commerce rules

NEW DELHI: The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has welcomed the government’s latest move to curb the sale of illegal mobile signal boosters through strengthened e-commerce guidelines. The new rules, aimed at ensuring compliance with existing telecom regulations, mandate e-commerce platforms to remove unauthorized wireless equipment from their listings and hold sellers accountable.
COAI said the decision marks a significant step toward safeguarding network quality and public safety. Illegal signal boosters have long been a concern for telecom operators, as they interfere with mobile networks, degrade service quality, and pose security risks.
The industry body praised the government’s proactive approach and reiterated its support for strict enforcement against the sale and installation of such unauthorized devices.
