NEW DELHI: Saudi Arabia has intensified airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen following a series of missile and drone attacks by the Iran-aligned group on Saudi territory. The renewed fighting marks a significant escalation in the Yemen conflict, with clashes also spreading along Yemen’s Red Sea coast.

The Houthis have claimed attacks on Saudi military and energy infrastructure, while Saudi authorities have vowed to respond firmly. Saudi air defences also intercepted a drone south of Mecca on Tuesday, according to the Saudi-led coalition. The Houthis have denied responsibility for the alleged drone attack near the holy city.

The escalation is raising concerns over global energy supplies and maritime trade, as Houthi forces have expanded their presence near the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a major shipping route connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
