MediaTek unveils first 2nm smartphone chip

NEW DELHI: Semiconductor major MediaTek has unveiled its new Dimensity 9600 Pro, becoming the company's first smartphone processor manufactured using TSMC's advanced 2-nanometre process technology.

The new chipset is designed to deliver improved performance and power efficiency as smartphone makers increasingly compete on artificial intelligence, gaming and advanced mobile computing capabilities.

New 3nm chip also launched

Alongside the Dimensity 9600 Pro, MediaTek introduced the Dimensity 9600M, manufactured using a 3nm process. The company said smartphones powered by the new chipsets are expected to arrive in the market soon.

The move strengthens MediaTek's position in the premium smartphone processor segment, where it competes with major chipmakers including Qualcomm and Apple.

Focus on AI and efficiency

The latest generation of processors is expected to support increasingly demanding AI applications on smartphones, while improvements in semiconductor manufacturing are aimed at delivering higher performance without a corresponding increase in power consumption.

The adoption of 2nm technology also marks an important step in the broader semiconductor industry's shift towards smaller and more efficient chip architectures.

With smartphone manufacturers increasingly integrating generative AI and other advanced computing features into flagship devices, MediaTek's latest processors are expected to play a key role in the next generation of premium smartphones.
