Meta partners With Reliance on AI-Enabled Data Center in India

NEW DELHI: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Meta Platforms have announced a strategic partnership to develop an AI-enabled hyperscale data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, marking a major milestone in India's growing role in the global artificial intelligence infrastructure ecosystem.

Under the agreement, RIL will develop a 168 MW data centre facility for Meta, with the project expected to be completed within two years and designed for future scalability. The facility will be Meta's first built-to-suit data centre capacity in India and will support the technology giant's global infrastructure and AI computing requirements.

As part of the collaboration, Reliance will provide end-to-end services covering the entire lifecycle of the facility, including design, construction, utility management, renewable energy supply, network connectivity, and managed operational services. The project positions Reliance as a comprehensive solutions provider for hyperscale AI infrastructure in India.

Located in Jamnagar, the facility will benefit from Gujarat's strong infrastructure ecosystem, including access to renewable energy resources, water availability, proximity to submarine cable landing stations on India's western coast, and connectivity through Jio's extensive fibre network. The data centre will operate on renewable energy and use desalinated seawater for cooling, reflecting the companies' commitment to sustainable infrastructure development.

Reliance Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani described the partnership as a transformative moment for India's digital infrastructure, stating that the project demonstrates India's readiness to play a leading role in the global AI revolution.

Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company is proud to collaborate with Reliance on its first AI-enabled data centre in India, adding that the facility will help Meta expand its global AI infrastructure while strengthening its long-term investment in the Indian economy.

The project aligns with the Government of India's vision of positioning data centres as strategic national infrastructure and attracting global investments in AI and digital technologies.
