Russia and ASEAN agree to expand cooperation in trade, energy and digital development

NEW DELHI: Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed to deepen cooperation in a range of strategic areas, including trade, energy, security, tourism and digital development, during a high-level summit hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The summit marked the 35th anniversary of relations between Russia and ASEAN, underscoring the growing importance of their partnership amid evolving global economic and geopolitical dynamics. Leaders emphasized the need to enhance economic ties, strengthen regional stability, and promote collaboration in emerging sectors such as digital technologies and innovation.

Discussions focused on expanding trade and investment opportunities, improving energy cooperation, and increasing connectivity between Russia and Southeast Asian nations. The leaders also highlighted the importance of cooperation in security matters, tourism development, and people-to-people exchanges.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining an open and inclusive regional framework while exploring new avenues for cooperation that can contribute to sustainable growth and mutual prosperity. The summit concluded with a shared pledge to further advance Russia–ASEAN relations and build on the achievements of the past three and a half decades.
