NEW DELHI: India and Indonesia have formalised a new partnership to strengthen cooperation in telecommunications and digital technologies, with a focus on next-generation networks, 6G, emerging technologies and digital skills. The cooperation has been formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries.

The agreement covers cooperation in 4G, 5G and 6G technologies, along with areas such as advanced wireless communications and quantum technology. It also envisages joint research and development, knowledge exchange and collaboration between industry, academia and research institutions.

The partnership will also focus on strengthening digital skills and technical capabilities in both countries. India and Indonesia are expected to explore collaboration on future telecommunications technologies and digital ecosystems, while promoting greater participation of universities, research institutions and private-sector stakeholders.

Another key area of cooperation will be the development of disaster-resilient and emergency communication systems to help maintain connectivity during natural disasters and other emergencies. An annual Indonesia-India Telco Dialogue is also planned to review progress and identify areas for further cooperation.

The MoU follows commitments made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Indonesia and is set to provide a framework for sustained cooperation in telecommunications and digital technology.
